WORSHIP in

MARANATHA

It is good to praise the Lord, and make music to your name, O Most High   Psalm 92:1

Praise and worship are important aspects of our spiritual lives, and important functions of the church.  Worship is the only activity that the Bible describes as constantly occurring in heaven, at every moment (Rev. 4:8-11).  Worship is the one activity we do on earth that coincides or overlaps with what is occurring in heaven at that moment.  It is one of the only activities – perhaps the only activity – done on both heaven and earth, at the same time.  We worship because the Lord deserves it, and out of love for Him.  The Holy Spirit operates powerfully during true worship or praise – changing our hearts, bringing light and revelation, working in power.

The Lord brings victories in our lives as the church worships in an appropriate way.  Paul was freed miraculously from prison as he and his companions praised the Lord late into the night.  (Acts 16:25).  King Jehoshaphat in the Old Testament won an important victory by placing musicians and singers in front of the army to praise the Lord.  (2 Chron. 20:21).

As we have sought the Lord for direction about our worship over the years, we believe He has given us a number of guidelines to make our “sacrifice of praise” more balanced, effective, and (most importantly) pleasing to Him.  It is more than a distinctive style of worship (although visitors from other churches often feel that we have a distinctive style).  Instead, we have a definite approach, or a set of goals and priorities, that shapes how we worship when we meet together.  We highlight some of the major points below (follow the links).
